How to write prompts

This guide is only about describing a scene: action, speech, sound, camera, and cuts. Commands, prices, and order settings are covered in Getting started.

New 2.1 features are in beta. Check availability and the final price in the order panel.

The skeleton of a description

This guide is written for Navi Flow

The three-field format and the tips below apply to Navi Flow. For Navi Core the prompt is usually written by Magic prompt; what it does is described in Magic prompt.

Five parts, in this order.

  1. Style, shot type, who is in the frame.
  2. What moves in the surroundings.
  3. What the character does, phase by phase.
  4. What must not move.
  5. The quality tail.
Example by the skeleton
2D-animated, medium close-up of the red-haired girl in a black jacket. Rain falls steadily behind her. She raises the cup with her right hand, takes one sip, then lowers it. Her left hand stays at her side, her feet stay planted, the background stays exactly as it is in the first frame. The camera stays completely still, no zoom. Smooth anime animation, natural motion, detailed facial expression.
The style label goes first

Cinematic, live-action, 2D-animated, 3D CG, claymation, watercolor, vintage film.

02

The three-field format

It works better than free text because it clearly separates the scene, sound, and music.

integrated_multimodal_description
Everything visible and all speech. Shot markers, timecodes and camera movement live here too.
overall_soundscape
Sound: the surroundings and the action.
non_diegetic_music
Music only the viewer hears, not the characters.

Anchoring a picture as the first frame

Start the first field with the anchor:

The anchor
Picture 1 is fully referenced at 0.00 seconds and belongs to [Shot 1]. The style, subject, colors and spatial relationships of Picture 1 stay consistent.
03

Calm scenes

Pin down everything that does not move

The model moves whatever you did not hold in place.

Name the free hand, the feet, the tail, the background - exactly the parts that are in your frame and take no part in the action.

For the background one exact phrase works: the background stays exactly as it is in the first frame.

Do not describe what is not in the frame

The model will try to act on a false description, and the clip will have to be redone.

04

Scenes with motion

Here the rule is the opposite. Pin down nothing.

If you write that hands, hair or the pose stay in place during sex, running or dancing, the motion will stop. Describe continuity instead: the motion is continuous and repetitive.

Say who drives the motion

The man drives the motion works better than describing both participants separately.

05

Speech

Speech goes into the first field, not the sound one.

The format of one line
A woman in her 30s (S2), on-screen, mid-pitch voice, says with quiet anger <d>[Russian] Ты обещал пятнадцатого.</d>
  • the identity, the action and the delivery stay outside the tags;
  • inside <d> there is only the language and the exact words;
  • for a voiceover write says in an off-screen voiceover;
  • a line across a cut: the <scenetrans> tag at both sides of the join;
  • a line cut off by the end of the clip: the <cutoff> tag.

The first time a character appears, give the approximate age, whether they are on-screen or off, the pitch of the voice, the speech rate and the accent. The same number (S1) holds across all scenes. Silent characters need no numbers.

Do not use quotation marks for speech

Quotation marks mean text visible on screen, and the model will draw a caption instead of speaking the line.

06

Cuts

The first shot [Shot 1] carries no timecode. After that the timecodes go strictly in ascending order:

A cut marker
At 00:03.000, the camera cuts to [Shot 2] ...
[Shot 1][Shot 2][Shot 3]At 00:03.000At 00:05.500012345678At least two seconds per shot. The first shot carries no timecode.
[Shot 1][Shot 2][Shot 3]At 00:03.000At 00:05.500012345678At least two seconds per shot. The first shotcarries no timecode.

Wordings for a cut: cuts to, transitions to, switches to. Dissolves and fades are written separately and only if they are really needed.

At least two seconds per shot

On a four-second clip a cut is usually pointless, six fits one, eight fits one or two.

A change of framing without a cut is camera movement, not a new shot.

07

Sound

Two fields, and they must not be mixed up.

overall_soundscape
The surroundings and the sounds of the action: wind, rain, steps, rustling fabric, hits, breathing, laughter. One to four sentences. N/A only if you are asking for full silence.
non_diegetic_music
Music the characters do not hear. Describe the instruments, the tempo, the rhythm and how the volume changes. Words like “epic” and “atmospheric” mean nothing to the model. If you want no music, write N/A explicitly, otherwise it may appear on its own.
Sound the characters hear goes into the first field

A radio, singing, a street musician - that is integrated_multimodal_description, not the sound fields.

Write sound as sentences with a verb and a surface, not as a comma-separated list.

Works
Rain taps against the window while traffic hums underneath
Does not work
rain, traffic, footsteps
08

Camera movement

It is written straight into the description; there is no separate field.

What you setValues
Type of movementZoom In/Out, Push In/Pull Out, Pan Left/Right, Truck Left/Right, Tilt Up/Down, Pedestal Up/Down, Arc Shot, Tracking Shot, Static Shot, Shake Slightly/Strongly, POV, Roll Clockwise/Counterclockwise
Amplitudewith small amplitude, with large amplitude
Speedat slow speed, at fast speed
Medium amplitude and normal speed are not written - they are the default.
If the camera must hold still, say so

The camera stays completely still, no zoom. Silence about the camera means the model will move it by itself.

09

On-screen text

Words in double quotation marks are drawn by the model as a caption. Write them in the language they should appear in, and do not use quotation marks for anything else.

10

Adult scenes

18+

Write plainly: the model understands euphemisms worse than direct words.

  • state the position of the participants and what exactly happens, not the general mood;
  • say where the focus stays: the focus stays on the thrusting;
  • describe the sound separately and concretely - it is half of the impression;
  • do not pin down body parts, see the section on motion.
11

Common breakages

What you seeWhyWhat to do
Mumbling instead of speechNo speaker numbersAdd (S1) and (S2), wrap the words in <d>[Language]...</d>
Speech became on-screen textThe line is in quotation marksQuotation marks are for on-screen text only; speech goes in <d>
The line went to the wrong characterThe number is not tied to the character descriptionTie them together at the first appearance
Music appeared that you did not ask forThe non_diegetic_music field is empty or vagueWrite N/A explicitly
The clip cuts unexpectedlyA change of surroundings without a timecodeAdd At MM:SS.mmm or write no cuts
The face or the clothes driftThe role of the reference is not setMark it fully_preserved and repeat the tag at every appearance
The character frozeSomething that should move is pinned downRemove the holds, add continuous and repetitive
The background moves, although you did not askThe background is not pinned downAdd the background stays exactly as it is in the first frame
12

What not to do

  • do not retell what the picture already shows: hair colour, clothes and surroundings are set by the frame, and extra words take the model’s attention away from the action;
  • do not write empty labels like “beautiful”, “high quality”, “cinematic” - they describe no frame at all;
  • adverbs work better than adjectives: slowly raises is clearer than slow movement;
  • put the quality tail at the end, not at the start - at the start it takes room away from the action.
13

Ready-made templates

A calm scene without speech

Template 1
integrated_multimodal_description: [Shot 1] Picture 1 is fully referenced at 0.00 seconds and belongs to [Shot 1]. 2D-animated, medium close-up of the girl at the window. Rain runs down the glass behind her. She lifts the cup with her right hand, takes one sip, lowers it. Her left hand stays at her side, her feet stay planted, the background stays exactly as it is in the first frame. The camera stays completely still, no zoom. Smooth anime animation, natural motion, detailed facial expression.

overall_soundscape: Rain taps steadily against the glass while a low room tone continues underneath. The cup clicks softly against the saucer.

non_diegetic_music: N/A

A scene with speech and a cut

Template 2
integrated_multimodal_description: [Shot 1] Live-action, medium shot of a man in his 40s (S1), on-screen, low-pitch voice, standing in a kitchen. He turns to the door and says with tired calm <d>[Russian] Я же просил не приходить.</d> At 00:03.500, the camera cuts to [Shot 2], a close-up of the woman in the doorway (S2), on-screen, mid-pitch voice. She answers quietly <d>[Russian] И всё-таки я здесь.</d> The camera stays still in both shots.

overall_soundscape: A refrigerator hums under the room tone. Fabric rustles as he turns, and the door creaks once.

non_diegetic_music: N/A
18+A scene with motion, one shot - adult example
Template 3
integrated_multimodal_description: [Shot 1] 2D-animated, medium shot of the two characters on the bed. The man drives the motion, moving with steady force. The motion is continuous and repetitive. No climax, no pose change, no new action, no cuts. The camera stays completely still, no zoom. Smooth anime animation, strong male-driven thrusting, passive body recoil, natural jiggle.

overall_soundscape: Damp skin slaps against skin on each thrust while the mattress creaks quietly underneath. She draws a short breath between strokes.

non_diegetic_music: N/A
